On February 8, 2014, the Dazzlers performed at Sweet Somethings, a special Valentine’s event, wearing designs by Warm Clarity of ~ghee~. The show was presented by The Collective and, along with fashions from ~ghee~, it featured collections from Paisley Daisy by Joeylin, and Beautiful Deluxe cosmetics by Sam Deluxe. There was also a live music performance by Phemie Allcott.
A week before the show, Warm Clarity took some time away from her busy schedule to chat with me, and I was immediately treated to Warm Clarity’s charm and self-effacing humor. When asked how she first heard about the Dazzlers, she admitted she has the “memory of a goldfish” but believes she first heard about the Dazzlers through the Carter and Dar Show. She then found herself thinking about making “sparkly” outfits for the dance group and felt that with her particular style, she was “meant to make stuff for the Dazzlers.”
Indeed, “sparkly” describes many of her designs which are bold, colorful, and dramatic enough to be worn for the stage, and it is clear that Warm gives much thought to everything she makes. About the outfits she created for the dancers in the Sweet Somethings show, she said she wanted a “shimmery kind of effect.” Her inspiration came from the songs themselves as well as the set designed by her friend, Beatrice Serendipity. “I worked with the design of the set,” she said, “because I wanted it all to be cohesive.”
Speaking of Beatrice Serendipity, Warm credits her for much of her success. She said that, among other things, Bea reworked her blog, watches her back, and generally provides help any way she can. Warm proclaims, “I wouldn’t have gotten as much done without her.”
It didn’t take long to see that Warm Clarity is surrounded by supportive friends and family in both Second Life and Real Life. The Sweet Somethings show was an idea manifested by Warm and her long-time friend in RL, Joeylin, creator and owner of Paisley Daisy. They went to high school together and have been friends for 25 years!
It would be impossible to write about Warm without mentioning Cold Jupiter, her partner in both lives. Cold Jupiter is the creative owner of Cold Media, a company which produces high quality machinima. And he also creates some pretty snazzy cars! Cold recently joined the Dazzlers, which she thinks is great. “He is my biggest source of inspiration” she said. “We work collaboratively as artists, bouncing ideas back and forth.” In fact, the animated textures in some of her designs were inspired by “Jupiter”, as she calls him. In the picture below, I am wearing one of those creations.
Having a male Dazzlers dancer in her family, I wondered if Warm would consider making men’s outfits for a future Dazzlers show, and she said it was a real possibility. She currently does have some very nice men’s lounge apparel on the SL Marketplace and has created a subsidiary of ~ghee~, called ‑He‑, for men’s apparel.
As if she doesn’t have enough to do, Warm is a full-time student as well as a mom and wife in RL. She is studying graphic design and is working towards a degree in fine arts. Seeing her interest in dance and the arts, I asked if she had ever been a performer in RL. “I took one year of drama and did not like it. In high school, I was very shy, very strange.” Although she didn’t like to be on the stage, she says she definitely likes her designs to be on stage!
It was wonderful to hear that Warm is happy and busy with lots of fun things going on. She is already working on fashions for summer, as well as designing for the upcoming Opium project. “I’ve got releases every week. I’m going crazy,” she laughed. You can tell Warm Clarity loves what she does and it shows in her designs. They are full of passion and sparkle and color, just like her!
